The Best Spotify Playlists for Hip Hop, R&B, and Soul Lovers

Freezepeach is constantly updating and curating our playlists. We’ve selected a handful of our favorites to share with you here. If you like what you’re listening to, there’s plenty more to check out on our Spotify. 🍑

Soulwave

Your stop for new and old Soulwave music. An eclectic and loose mix of progressive and funky R&B mixed with nu-soul. And some classic R&B sprinkled in as well. Our Soulwave playlist focuses on silky soulful vocals, groovy basslines, and hip hop drum beats – all dripping with cool sensual energy. There’s a ‘lounge vibe’ feel to the playlist, but don’t limit this music to one mood or place. Featured artists include The Internet, Robert Glasper, D’Angelo, Phony Ppl, Thundercat, Lianne La Havas, Steve Lacy, SZA, Anderson .Paak, etc.

Bounce House

Bounce House is a an uptempo mix featuring heavy bass, rhythmic beats, groovy horn sections, and DJ remixes. Press play on this playlist when you want to get people bouncing (or get bouncing yourself). With a wide range of creative artists from The Talking Heads to Smino, this party setlist is for everyone that appreciates the sneakily off-beat, and welcomes the unexpected. Prominently featured artists are Kaytranada, Toro y Moi, Channel Tres, Moodymann, GoldLink, Jessie Ware.

Soundtrack to Right Now

There’s not a whole lot to say about this one. It’s our flagship playlist and my personal go-to on a daily basis. It’s the one we update more frequently than the rest. If you’re looking for our latest favorites, they’ll be at the top here.

Soundtrack to right now is today’s rotation. Play it from the top. Or Shuffle it? Either way, you won’t get bored with this wildly eclectic list of 300+ songs.

Hip Hop Meets Jazz

Hip hop has been jazzy from the early beginnings, just look at A Tribe Called Quest and Guru’s Jazzmatazz. While always in the background, the popularity of jazzy hip hop has ebbed and flowed over the years. Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly made jazzy hip hop mainstream again in 2015, but the artists he worked with – the likes of Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and Thundercat – were already bringing this soulful jazz thing to hip hop full time. Hip Hop Meets Jazz is an ode to the cross-pollination of jazz and hip hop; it’s rife with jazzy production, heavy use of sampling, and timeless collaborations. Featured artists include J Dilla, A Tribe Called Quest, Alfa Mist, Common, Oddissee, Guru, and Blu.

Rap Rap Rap Rap Rap

A curated selection of rap songs from all eras, regions, and styles. Guaranteed to feature something you’ve already heard and something you’ve never heard before. Featured artists include Mos Def, AZ, Earl Sweatshirt, Outkast, Lupe Fiasco, Westside Gunn, and many many more.

MoodRing (R&B Derivatives)

A sprawling mix of derivative R&B music. From minimalist crooning to dancefloor-ready alt-pop, this playlist is a collection of spellbinding and soulful sounds. An ‘in your feels’ kind of vibe, if you will. Featured artists include Dijon, Sampha, FKA Twigs, Blood Orange, Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, and SZA.

Alternative Hip Hop/R&B

Alternative Hip Hop/R&B is an admittedly lame name for a playlist. What even is alternative anymore? I don’t have an answer for that. But these songs all feel like deeper cuts; they’re hip hop-adjacent songs that would give the casual listener pause – or at least would have back when they came out, before they re-drew hip hop’s creative boundaries and became the new standard. Each track on this playlist departs in sound and style from the previous, but they all share  a genre-bending creativity. Featured artists include Flying Lotus, Mos Def, Kid Cudi, Saba, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Tyler, The Creator, Chance the Rapper, and more.
